Birthday Bust!

Well....yesterday was the big day! Kalissa turned a year old and we tried to give her a celebration. But did she appreciate it? Noooooooooo! In true Kali fashion, she decided to be temperamental. Look at that face!!! *lol*

We didn't want to make a big fuss this time around so we decided to just have a little bbq with our family. Nana and PawPaw were there and so was Oma and Daddy's friend, KC. Daddy grilled ribs and cooked some greens, cornbread, and deviled eggs. I made my famous bbq beans. Since I knew she wouldn't eat cake, I decided to make a little ice cream treat for her which consisted of sponge cake topped with french vanilla ice cream and surrounded by strawberries and bananas. I also bought the cutest little "1st birthday" stuff for her. I thought she would love the "princess" sash and foo-foo hat but I couldn't have been more wrong!! As soon as I put the sash around her she cried. And I don't mean whined, she had a full-on melt down over that sash!! Did I take it off? Nope. I told her that mama spent $3.99 and she was going to wear that sash! *LOL* I eventually took it off her and she calmed down. I can't wait for her to turn into the little girlie girl that she's destined to be!

We ate and then sang Happy Birthday to her, which she didn't seem to like either. *sigh*

Then it was time to open gifts. She got the cutest clothes from her Uncle Felcie and Great Aunt Ursula. Uncle Frankie sent a gift card. Nana, PawPaw and Daddy gave her cash and her God family sent U.S. savings bonds. Oma gave her a wooden rocking horse and several toys. My dear friend, Tanyetta, sent money for me to use toward turning this blog into a book. We got lots of phone calls too. Her Granddad (my father), God sisters, and Great Aunt Evelyn called along with all my friends. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate!!

I'm soooo glad that Daddy was adamant about us not having a party this time around. Kalissa is definitely not ready for all of that. I'm sure that will change by next year -- and we'll have better birthday pictures to share! *lol*
