For the past 10 days, we have had the pleasure of Daddy's parents being here with us. Kalissa absolutely loved having them here and everyone at her school knew it! When I would pick her up at the end of the school day, her teacher would tell me that Kali had been talking about them alllll day. *lol* As I was getting her ready for school one morning she said to me, "Mommy....my PawPaw is sooooo beautiful. And my Nana is sooooooo beautiful too!" Awwwww!
Of course we made sure that we made the most of their visit. After last Thursday's graduation road trip, Nana and I spent Friday morning lunching and shopping. We picked Kali up from school and sat down for our first dinner together which was sushi (I had late meetings on Tuesday & Wednesday so I didn't see much of them their first 2 days here). Yummmm! On Saturday we all joined the Woods family for a 'welcome bbq' that they put on for Nana & Pawpaw. That was so very sweet of them and everyone got to know one another, which is a good thing since they are Kali's Godfamily.
On Sunday, we drove to Los Angeles to visit Kali's Great Great Aunt Sarah. This is Kali's second visit with her extended family. I know she doesn't think much about it now but when she's older, I'm sure she's going to love having pictures of herself with her ancestors. Especially fun for her was feeding their pet turtle name Peter who lives in the side yard! She also enjoyed playing with her third cousin, Dylan, who is six.
On Memorial Day, we spent the day relaxing and recuperating from the busy week we had just had. Nana & PawPaw came over for dinner: Daddy's famous fried chicken wings and my homemade spaghetti. When it was time for Nana & Pawpaw to go back to their hotel room, Kali cried and cried and didn't want them to leave. We promised her that they'd be back the next day but it didn't help much. Poor baby! Tuesday rolled around and they came back over after Daddy and I made it home from work. Daddy made his famous smothered pork chops (notice how all his meals are 'famous'?) and I made rice with southern green beans (I borrowed the recipe from Trychel). It was all soooooo very good. I have no idea why I am blogging about the food we ate. I guess I'm a fatty at heart. *lol*
Yesterday, we spent the whole afternoon at the Zoo. We walked that place from 2:30 to 6:00!! I've never spent that much time there! We saw a lot of animals but still did not manage to see everything. We had a great time and after walking up an appetite, we headed over to Hometown Buffet to stuff our faces (at least that's what I did!).
Unfortunately, today we had to say our 'see you laters'. *sniff sniff* We had such a great time together and I miss them already! Kalissa adores them and it was endearing to see them strengthen their bonds during this trip. All of us definitely hated to see them go! Next year won't come fast enough for us to hop on a plane to see them in St. Louis. In the meantime, Kali can look at the pictures and reminisce about their time together.
