Baby's First Word
Over the weekend, Kalissa had her first half-yearly birthday celebration (not that we had a party or anything). With her turning 6 months, she also spoke her first real word and to no surprise -- it was "Dada". Kalissa has been vocalizing the sound sequence of "da-da-da-da-ya-ya-da-da" for about 2 weeks but I didn't count that as first words because she was just making sounds. Once we started making a big fuss over her making the sounds "da-da", she has learned to cut it off at just those two syllables. Of course I know she isn't actually referencing her daddy when she says it, but that doesn't stop Al from puffing out his chest at the sound of it. *lol*
A quick web search turned up that usually this early language development starts somewhere around 9 months and that she should know what "dada" and "mama" mean at around her first birthday I'm excited to see how long it will take her to learn. In the meantime, I'm starting her on "Your Baby Can Read". Daddy bought it for her for Christmas and I told him I'd start it when she turned 6 months old. I think she's ready. We'll see if it really helps her language development.
Her official stats are 16.5 pounds and 25" long.
