The Big Four Ohhhhhhhhh!

So Mommy finally did it!  On 6/13 I turned the big 4-0!!!  Everyone knows I don’t make a big deal about my birthday and truly I do not get the whole hoopla behind birthdays (of course I make an exception for kids’ birthdays) but this one is a big deal because, well, I’m 40!  ANNNNDDDD…..I am extremely happy to borrow a verse from Mary J. Blige and sing “So I like what I see when I’m looking at me when I’m walking past the mirror!”  It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say that.  Matter of fact, the whole song is appropriate so let’s take a time out and groove to it….

Being that I'm feeling kind of extra and it's a milestone birthday, this year I decided I would celebrate!  I started off by getting a new hair color and highlights for my teenie weenie afro that, after 6 months of being natural, is finally at a length that I love.  I had to travel all the way down to the Mexican border to get it done but lemme tell you….Lupé gave me exactly what I wanted!

Thursday morning rolled around and I told Kalissa that it was my birthday.  Did she wish me a happy day?  Nooooooo…instead she said, “No it’s not!  It’s my birthday!”   She knew full and well that it was not her birthday but she refused to wish me a happy day!  LOL!!!!  I went on to work and it was business as usual.  My friend gave me a cupcake pan/carrier because she knows that soon enough I’ll have to start toting cupcakes for various functions but other than that, my day had no fanfare.  I asked Daddy if we had plans after work and he told me to just come home and stop asking questions.  LOL!   I figured he had cooked me dinner or something.  So I walked out of my building and headed towards my car.  But it wasn’t there.  There was a car in my spot that looked like my car, but it wasn’t my car.   So after a few minutes of looking around the parking lot, I walked closer to the look-a-like car and realized that it was my car!!!  Daddy put some new rims on it!!!  Woooo hoooo!  I’ve been wanting fancy rims ever since we bought this car a year and a half ago!

Even though he thinks I’m a teenager for wanting them, he finally caved and bought them for me!  When I got home, I had flowers, cards, sushi and a lemon cake with lemon icing (my favorite!) baked by my CandyYam!  Mom sent me delicious fudge from Alaska and I also received cards and calls from my family and friends.  It was a fabulous 40th celebration!

Hmmmmm…..Maybe I should rethink this whole not celebrating my birthday business!
Happy birfday to meeeeeee!
