ABCs and 123s

Our Kalissa Bear surprised me once again with displaying how much knowledge she has stored in that brain of hers. This morning, I was wearing a t-shirt that has “SPELMAN COLLEGE” printed on the center of it. Beneath those words is an “S” with a circle around it. As I was getting Kali dressed, she pointed at my shirt and kept saying “S…S….S” I looked down and low and behold, the child was pointing at the “S” on my shirt! I said, “Very good Kali! That is an S!” Then she gave me a look as if to say “I’m not done!” And she pointed at my shirt again and started saying “A….A….A” I looked at my shirt, and she was pointing at the letter “A”! Again I praised her and told her she was correct. This went on for the letters “N” and “L” too. When she got to “L”, she said “L…L…Lion…Laaaaaa!” I was completely blown away! She has a V-Tech laptop that she plays with daily. It teaches her the alphabet in several different ways but her favorite seems to be where she has to press the letter on the keyboard and then that letter shows up on the screen along with a picture of something that begins with that particular letter. When she presses “L” the laptop says “L. Lion (then a picture of a lion shows up) Laaaaaaaa” So basically, she repeated exactly what the laptop has been teaching her. At this point, I picked her up, gave her a big hug and told her how smart she is and how proud I am of her. She just started laughing hysterically. I’ll bet she was thinking, “Mommy, you ain’t seen nothing yet!”

She’s not even 20 months old and she can correctly identify at least 4 letters of the alphabet. It’s not like we drill her on this stuff or anything! I was completely shocked that she was storing this information. She just busted out with it this morning. *lol* She is also counting. When we walk up the stairs, she counts them out “1….2….3” That’s as high as she goes, but I’m very impressed. Then again, I’m her mom so I guess that’s to be expected!
