She Gives Me Fever

Sunday morning Kali got her first fever! ...and of course I was freaking out. She woke up at about 6 a.m. like any other day. She was dressed in her fleece footed pajamas and as soon as I picked her up, I could feel heat radiating from her. I figured she was just hot from being bundled up and put her in the bed with me like I normally do on the weekends. Daddy couldn't sleep that night so he was out on the couch. While we were in the bed, she touched my face and her hands felt like a heater! They were so warm. I touched her feet and even they were really hot too (even through the pajamas). I don't know why 'fever' wasn't the first thing that popped in my mind...I guess I never really felt anyone who had a fever and can't even remember myself having one. I got up and got the thermometer and then called for Daddy to help me. Her underarm temperature was 102.4! But Kali wasn't complaining one bit. She wasn't crying or anything. Daddy went out to get her some medicine and that brought it down some. Of course I wanted to rush her to the hospital but Daddy assured me that this was not really a high temperature and without any other symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, or loss of appetite), the doctors wouldn't want to see her for 3 days. THREE DAYS??? I confirmed that information with webmd.com and he was right (the more seasoned moms at work also told me he was right). We would have to fight this for three long days. Day one was cool...she was her usual self and we just gave her medicine when needed. On day two she was pitiful. All she wanted to do was sleep. I felt so bad for her that there was nothing I could do. At the end of day 2 she stopped eating. We gave her juice bars and yogurt. That's all she wanted. Our sitter was such a trooper! She let us bring her, fever and all. I was able to do half days at work on day two and day three.
It was tough seeing her just lay on the couch, barely able to keep her eyes open, but by the end of day two she was coming back around. Whatever it was came and left on day three. It was like she took an energy pill and she bounced back without missing a beat! I'm sooooo happy to have my little KaliBear back and feeling good. Just in time for Christmas!
