You Set Us Back 400 Years!

A few weeks ago, Qiana taught Kalissa how to say "monkey". Then my mom bought Kali a little pink monkey that she absolutely loves! "Monkey" became Kali's new favorite word and she says it so cute that I don't mind hearing it all night long. I was telling my co-worker, who also has a baby around the same age, about Kali's new word and she asked me what I was dressing her up as for Halloween. I told her that we don't really 'do' Halloween so I most likely wouldn't dress her up at all. She said she had a monkey costume that Kali could wear and she brought it to work the next day. It was the cutest little costume! When I got home, Kali was sitting in the bed with Daddy and I pulled out the costume to show it to her. I said, "Look Kali...monkey!" She just gave me a mean face. So I put the hood on her head and said again, "Monkey!" She snatched the hood off and gave me another mean look. I tried again, this time putting the hood on her head and then standing her in front of the mirror and I said, "look Kali, it's a monkey!" She took one look at herself and the biggest smile came across her face! She started twirling around and saying, "monkey! monkey!" She loved it! I couldn't wait for Halloween to get here so she could wear it. Of course Daddy was NOT happy. He kept saying that I should be ashamed to put our black baby in a monkey suit. *HAHAHAHAHAHA!* I didn't even think about that! Racial stereotypes is the last thing I have on my mind and she was just too cute in the costume, so she was wearing it!

Halloween rolled around and here she is:

I showed the pictures to Frankie and he thought she was a bear. When I told him she was a monkey, he said I set 'our people' back 400 years! *LOL*!!! Either way, she had a ball. We didn't take her out trick-or-treating, but she just enjoyed running around in her costume and I enjoyed watching her!
