My mom got to my house around 9:00 this morning and I wasn't quite ready. Al was still sleeping. I finished getting dressed (everything is done in slow-motion with me nowadays) and was about to head out the door when I remembered to show my mom K.Rae's nursery. I opened the door and was immediately moved to tears. There in the corner of the nursery was my glider chair and a mother's day card. Let me just explain the significance of this chair. When we first went nursery furniture shopping, I sat in this chair. It is THE glider of all glider chairs...it just felt so plush but yet firm and the wood was beautiful and perfectly matched the furniture we chose. But it was WAAAAY expensive and I told Al that I could like something else for half the price. We went to Babies R Us and I even found a chair that I said would do just fine. And that was the end of it. So imagine my surprise to see the first chair (fit for a QUEEN) waiting for me this morning.
So anyway, we make it out the door and to The Rock Church in time for 10:00 service. It was my mom's first time there and she loved it. The Rock is huge, it's San Diego's "mega church" but yet it feels very personal. We arrived to long stem roses for everyone and enjoyed a really nice message.
After church, we headed over to Humphrey's By the Bay for a jazz brunch. It was really nice to enjoy a live jazz band while we ate because we could take our time, listen to the music, dance if we wanted to (which we didn't), and just people watch. There was a lovely family seated next to us who was very personable and they kept us entertained with their dancing on the dancefloor! My favorite part of the brunch was dessert and this is why:
Insert water works here. For some reason, my mom thought that Al didn't like her. She said he wasn't 'fuzzy' toward her. I passed along this information and of course he couldn't figure out why she would think he didn't like her. I hope that she now realizes that it was all in her head. So after delivering us roses, Al scooted out and we continued on with our brunch. When the bill came, the waitress said "the gentleman who was here earlier paid for your bill." I had no idea what she was talking about! There were some guys sitting behind us during most of our meal, but they had left and we never even spoke to them so we were puzzled as to why they would pay for our tab--and it wasn't cheap! (isn't it just like me to first think a stranger would just pay my bill? *lol*). Then the waitress said, the gentleman with the roses paid for your bill. My AL?!? I was stunned...again. And we cried. Again. *lol* I was truly surprised at all his generosity today! Not that he doesn't do nice things for me often, but for him to surprise me like this was just heartwarming. And I'm not even a mom yet! ...when I told him that, he responded that I AM a mom...I'm carrying our baby and taking care of her, providing her with food and a safe place to grow so I am already a mother. Awwwwww....
Anyway, we got back to my place and went shopping at Wal-mart for all my household supplies, then hung out with the t.v. for a bit before my mom headed home. It was a wonderful day and I'm glad to have spent it with my mom and I'm glad we were able to make her feel super special...because she is. :) Here are some pictures of us, the last one is super blury but hey--that's what happens when you ask strangers to take pictures! *lol*
