So yesterday was Kalissa's birthday party at Gigi's house. Kalissa was soooo excited for her party and she was also excited that she was getting her ears pierced beforehand! At one point, she actually changed her mind and said she didn't want to get her ears pierced so I said, no problem! We just need to call Gigi so she doesn't drive to meet us at the mall. During the course of their conversation though, Kali changed her mind again and we were back on schedule to get pierced at 2:00.
I wore earrings (which I rarely ever do) for the occasion and Kalissa couldn't wait to be able to have earrings too. We arrived at the Piercing Pagoda (I chose this place because "Piercing" is in their name so they must know what they're doing) and picked out a pair of little white gold studs. After what seemed like an eternity, Kalissa was finally allowed to climb into the chair for her big moment.
She was so brave! She barely even flinched! Not one tear left her little, precious eyes! As you can see, there is a guy on her right ear and a girl on her left ear. The guy starts telling me that the back didn't go on the earring and he has to screw it on, blah blah blah. To me, it sounded like something was wrong, but actually there wasn't. He just screwed on the earring backing and all was well. It did cause Kali a little discomfort because I'm sure her ears were sore but overall she was fine. On the other side, the girl was pretty quiet about the ear she did and when I looked at it, the earring had only gone HALF THROUGH!!!! At this point, Kalissa is still not crying and she was just admiring her new ear jewelry in the mirror. I asked the girl, how she planned to fix this and she said....."With your permission, I can push it through." Wait. Push it through the earlobe that isn't pierced??? ARE YOU CRAZY?!? You want my PERMISSION to put my baby girl through excruciating pain for the sake of an unnecessary ornament on her lobe?? Chick, you must be on bird seed. Ummm...what's your next solution? She then proceeds to offer to repierce it -- with the understanding that it may bleed and get infected. Oh lawd...please give me the strength from doing something that I will regret!! At this point, I lost it. Just take the earring OUT!!!!! So she attempted to do that and Kalissa started crying -- make that screaming. My heart bled!!! So then I start crying because I couldn't do anything to help her! I told her that they have to take the earring out and I'm so sorry that her ear is hurting, but nothing I said was helping. She continued to scream. I finally just had to hold her tight so the girl could take out the half-lodged earring. After it was out, I just stood there holding my baby and we're in the middle of the mall balling our eyes out together. The more Kali cried, the angrier I became. I could feel my blood boil and now I'm PISSED! Finally, I blew my stack and I went OFF! Daddy came over and took her from me (he had walked away in the midst of the drama so he could remain calm). They were apologizing profusely and even offered to pierce her again in about 2 weeks. Ummm....are you SERIOUS??? Do you think I would ever bring my daughter back here?? Ever?? I had to demand that they give Gigi her money back! Incredible. Once we got in the car, Kalissa said, "Mommy, I'm okay now!" I told her that I was glad and that I was sorry that they hurt her because I didn't want her to cry. Then she said to me, "Mommy I don't want you to cry either." Awwwwwww!!! She is my sweet baby girl! We headed to Kali's birthday party where she proudly showed off her new earring! *lol* Our original plan was to take the earring out when she went to sleep but she woke up every time we touched it (I'm sure her lobe was still sore). This morning she told us that she wants to keep it in so we're just going to let it stay in for the 8 weeks until it heals and then remove it. That way, in a FEW YEARS when she forgets all about this experience and wants to try it again, there will only be one lobe that needs to get done. Until then, she'll be rockin her mono-earring like the latest trend!
