Yesterday, we went in for our 37 week OB appointment. Of course I had nothing new to report to my doctor....feeling okay, lots of movement, blah blah blah. Same old thing as last week. *lol* He informed us that this week he will be checking my cervix to see if I'm dilating at all. FINALLY!!!! I just knew that I had to be dilated at least ONE centimeter! He also said that if I am dilated, he could perform a procedure called "sweeping the membranes" which results in 15-30% of women to go into labor within 24 hours. Before he could get out the question of whether or not I'd want him to do it, I was saying YES!!!!!!!! So now I'm REALLY excited as I lay back for my exam thinking that I could potentially go into labor in 24 hours!!! My doctor reminded me that the odds weren't in my favor...70% of women DON'T go into labor after the procedure. Whatever. I wasn't trying to hear that. Okay ladies, I was NOT prepared for the "discomfort" that came along with having my cervix checked. Ummm....how come no one WARNED me???? I damn near jumped off the table!! *lol* And this being Al's first gynecologic doctor's appt, he really wasn't any help. I was reaching for his hand and he must of been sitting on them or something because they were nowhere to be found. BUT! I had to remain as calm as possible so that my doc could perform this labor-friendly procedure. And then came the words: okay...you're not dilated at all. We'll try again next week.
WHAT?!? *ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr* Not even ONE piddly centimeter? I'm 2 1/2 weeks away from my due date. Could it be that K.Rae is really going to go the distance and make us all wait until then....or even past the date??? Oh say it ain't so!!!
So for now....we wait. And. Wait.
