We RUN this town!

We have not run a 5K in exactly one year!  In fact, this particular 5k was the last 5k we ran in 2017 and I did not want to go any longer without getting some exercise in as a family.  For one reason, Kali still isn't interested in any organized sports, but she can run and we want to keep that going.  In fact, she was the top girl runner in her entire school this year and earned a spot on the legacy plaque for her achievement:
(with her school principal.  Go Kali!!)
But more importantly, Momma is putting on weight and needs to get moving!  LOL!  And if I have to move...everybody has to move! 😊  So we put on our best superhero outfits for this superhero themed run and hit the pavement!  This run allowed dogs to join so Heidi and Giselle got to run their very first 5k with us!

Needless to say, after a year of couch surfing and no training to run in this July heat, we did not do our personal best by any stretch of the imagination, but we had fun as a family and WE FINISHED in under 40 minutes.  Our next 5k will be in October and we will be ready!

Happy 9th Birthday!!

Today is Kalissa's 9th birthday!  We celebrated with a "Pink Ladies" themed birthday party on Saturday with her best girlfriends!  Since she will be going to a new school in just a couple of months, we wanted her to be able to party with her friends from school one last time in style!

The day started with everyone meeting at our house where we rolled out the pink carpet and 50's décor.  A Pink Ladies jacket and cat eye shades were waiting for each of her guests.

Kali's bestie, Torey.

Once everyone arrived, the stretch Cadillac Escalade whisked them away to the Corvette Diner for lunch and games.  The Corvette Diner is a 50's themed restaurant that Kali loves to go to.

At the Corvette Diner, the girls dined on chicken fingers, burgers, and ice cream sundaes.  They were also treated to "crazy hair" decorations by our server.  I was worried that he would be shy about having to do Kali's hair but he didn't bat an eye and did his absolute best! LOL!

Kali had her own Chicken Dance parade around the restaurant...

And finished up with a gigantic cotton candy birthday "cake".  Kali does not like cake but she loves cotton candy!  Luckily this place serves up the most impressive mound of cotton candy that you'll ever see!  Check out her smile!!!!

We wrapped up the afternoon with games in the arcade and a limo ride back home.  Our baby is officially 9!!!

Parading Around Town

Today Kali participated in her first parade in our brand new neighborhood with her brand new Girl Scouts troop.  She finally graduated from a Brownie to a Junior but hasn't yet received her new green vest so she didn't wear one at all.  This was her 1st time meeting the troop members and in true Kali fashion, she jumped right in and made new friends.
This 4th of July parade happens every year on the main street of our new neighborhood and it's only about a mile and a half long.  The girls had bags of candy that they passed out to the spectators and Kali absolutely loved doing that.  She said, "Mommy, it made me feel good to give people candy."

She's such a love bug!!

Miracle Babies 2017

Well, here we are...back to where it all started!  Last year, this was Kali's very first official 5k and here we are one year later and she's still running!  To be exact, this was her 7th 5k with 6 of those being run in the first 5 months of this year.  Check out her race bling, trophies and awards she's already earned at the tender age of 7!  We're so proud of her!  In addition to wanting to be a veterinarian, she also wants to be in the Olympics some day.  We know she can do it if she tries!

We chose "The Flash" for this year's Superhero themed run and of course, the costumes were on point. : )   It was actually pouring rain this morning so we had ponchos ready to wear if we needed them but luckily we didn't.  The rain held off for the time it took us to finish (31 minutes 16 seconds for Kali and 36 minutes 3 seconds for me) and then poured buckets not too long after!

Once again, we had a blast at this run.  Here's a video of Kali running her heart out and a rare video of her showcasing her dance moves!
