Keeping Her Distance...

Now that I'm a working mom, Kalissa and I don't get to hit the town as much as we used to. It seems like just when the weekend begins, it's time to get ready for the Monday "rat race" again. But, we make the best of every moment and today was no exception. Daddy wasn't feeling too hot this morning so we didn't go to church. Instead, I decided to take Kali to the Wild Animal Park and leave Daddy to his day of football.

It was a perfect morning for it to...a cool 72 degrees and we were able to beat the crowd by getting there early. I planned it that way because I knew Kali would not want to just sit in her stroller and enjoy the scenery. Nope, not my baby! For obvious reasons, I don't let her walk around in crowds -- she would surely get trampled on. So I figured she would have a better time first thing in the morning.

Our first stop was the petting zoo. This would be her first visit to it since learning how to walk really well. I fully expected her to run up to the poor little deer and beat on them like she does Graham. But, she didn't! She still enjoyed being with them up close and personal but she definitely kept her distance. I don't think she actually touched one either. This was definitely a surprise for me. She didn't show signs of fear but she was cautious. I guess she realized how big they are and even though she's not yet 14 months old, she knew to watch her back. So smart!

After we left the petting zoo, I took her over to the ducks. I thought for SURE she would attack these feathered friends because they look way less intimidating and she LOVES to say "duck". When she watches her "Your Baby Can Read" videos, and they show a duck, she gets all excited. Not to mention her duck in the bathtub. There were several ducks out and about and I didn't know if they would run from her to try to bite her! *lol* But I figured that these ducks are around people all day every day so they're probably very gentle....but I stayed close just in case! Once again, Kalissa kept her distance. She laughed and called out to them but she didn't run up to them like I thought she would.

At one point, she crouched down as if trying to get on their level (ummm..baby girl, those ducks were taller than you!) and then made kiss-kiss noises. She was just too adorable.

After a couple of hours, it was time to go. Little Missy was going down fast and the sun came out to bake us!! We had a great time. I learned something new about my baby and she is just growing up too darn fast!!
