The Great Escape

Well folks...she did it. She's not yet 13 1/2 months old, but the girl climbed OUT OF HER CRIB yesterday. I am just too through! I was attempting to put her down for a nap even though she wasn't ready for one. We had plans to go to her God Family's house for a barbecue later and I wanted her to be well rested so she'd be in a great mood. So I reverted back to her baby days and tried to rock her to sleep. It took a while but once she drifted off I put her in her crib. As soon as I laid her down, she popped up and started talking. I left the room anyway because I thought that since she had just drifted off, she'd eventually talk herself back to sleep. She wasn't crying or anything...she was just wide awake. I went into my room and got ready to do some web surfing. About one minute later I hear a loud BOOM come from her room...then silence. I immediately went to her room and for the few seconds that it took for me to get there, I thought about what that sound could have been. Maybe she threw something out of her crib? No, that couldn't have been it because there's nothing but a pillow and blanket in her crib. Then I thought maybe her new shelves fell off the wall. By now I had opened her door and there she was. Face down on the floor. Then came Kali's screams. I scooped her up and realized what just happened. She didn't appear to be hurt so I just soothed her until she calmed down. I first thanked God that she was okay. She landed right next to the footstool of the glider chair. Sometimes the wooden foot rest is pulled out from the stool and had it been out at that moment, she would have hit her head on it.

Daddy got home a few minutes later and I told him what happened. The toddler rail STILL hasn't arrived (it's been on 'back order' since we bought her bedroom set!) and I'm not sure it'll ever be in stock so we're going to have to try something else. I think we're going to have to buy a generic toddler rail which isn't going to look nice but hey, this is about safety. Daddy doesn't think she'll do it again. He thinks she was too shook but I beg to differ. I think she'll keep doing it until she perfects her landing! *lol* Now that I think about, I shouldn't have been so surprised...Kali has been perfecting her climbing skills for a while now. She can climb up on the couch by herself and she's always trying to climb into her playpen. She even climbs up on her bike and stands on the seat using no hands. She is just growing leaps and bounds. Did I mention all 4 of her cuspids and 1st molars are in? They all arrived within the last week so now she has 16 teeth. 16!

Anyway...after her tears dried up, we headed out to the barbecue and she had a great time with everyone. She spent most of her time playing with Brooklyn and was especially happy that there was a friendly dog she would pet. Brooklyn taught her how to feed Tiffany treats and Tiffany was very patient and sweet to Kali. Doesn't Tiffany look like Rudy? They are the same breed but apparently Tiffany likes babies...maybe it's because she's blind and couldn't see the difference. *lol*

Well, I knew she was going to climb out her crib some day.And I agree it doesn't matter what the rail looks like, you want to keep Kalissa safe, she's short and it's along way down for her.And I am happy Tiffany was patient, because Kalissa loves animals very much.
