My, What Big EYES You Have!

That is the very first comment that people say when they see Kalissa. I can't blame them...she does have some pretty large peepers! *lol* She got them from Daddy and it's the one trait that I actually prayed she would get from him (his eyes were the first thing that made me take notice *lol*). So it's no wonder that she gets a lot of comments about them. The next thing people usually ask is her age. When I tell them 3 months old, it's THEIR eyes that get all big! Now I don't know too much about babies so I don't look at her to be large. She's got rolls on her thighs and her sister kindly pointed out that she has cellulite (kids say the darnedest things!) so I know she's chunky but nothing out of the ordinary, right? Well, lately Kalissa doesn't seem to be satisfied with just milk. She's still waking up every 3-4 hours looking for a bottle. And in my constant quest for baby knowledge, it seems she should be sleeping a good 6-7 hours during the night. Enough is enough!

Sooo...I enlisted the help of my friend, Tanyetta (see her blog to the right of the screen), because she is the only person I know who's my age and who's been there, done that, and is doing it some more! :) She posted some great tips on her blog to help me get started. I was happy to see that she fed her baby rice cereal IN A BOTTLE *gasp*! Of course we were all fed that way by our parents but everyone seems to have a problem with it nowadays. Both of Kalissa's grandmoms suggested it early on and I tried it when she was 6 weeks old but she ended up with constipation so I stopped feeding it to her. I don't know if it was too early or the fact that I was giving her like 4 tbsps in a 5 ounce bottle (told you I don't know what I'm doing!) but either way, I freaked out and went back to just milk. Now that she's older, I'm giving it another go. This time, I'm putting ONE tbsp in a 5 ounce bottle right after a nice warm bath and it seems to be working! Last night, she slept 6 hours! WOOOOO HOOOO!

So with rice cereal tried and tested, I'm moving on to oatmeal from a spoon! Last night was her first time and she WAS NOT having it, lemme tell you! My child screamed and screamed until Daddy came to the rescue. After I put some oatmeal in her mouth, he handed me a bottle of water and told me to let her drink some so that what's in her mouth will go down as she swallows. From that she will learn to swallow when food is put in her mouth. BINGO! Give that man a prize, it worked perfectly! She seemed to like it just fine so I'll continue with oatmeal in place of one of her feedings for the next week then work our way up to fruits and veggies. I'm sooooo excited...my baby is growing up!!!!

Hey ya. Good to hear you are doing well. Food is always the tricky thing. I fed Thomas rice cereal in the bottle (at about 3 months) then started cereal by spoon at 4 months. Don't rush the food thing. My friend's daughter ended up with severe contipation to the point they had to give her an enima. They said it was the most horrific expereince of their life. Take it slow. One time a day for now. Then build up around 5-6 months. If she is crying, don't force it. She will take it when she is ready. Look at me trying to give advice. Take what you will. But she is fine, healthly, normal and beautiful.

hey Sara! Thanks for the advice -- I value all the tips I get! I miss being able to pick your brain at work! I hear ya...Kalissa also got bad constipation and it hurt my heart so much to see her in pain. We're going much slower this time (only 2 tbsp of oatmeal once a day) and she's progressively getting better at eating it. So far, so good with her BM this time around. TMI?? LOL!! We have to get the babies together soon...Thomas is such an adorable little boy!

Karoline, You're doing a fine job. FOUR TBSP? *faints* :::KIDDING::: Al is a smart man. Always have a water bottle on hand to help her wash it down.
