One and Three Quarters!

Over the weekend our KaliBear turned 21 months old! In addition to this milestone, we celebrated Easter (no earthquake this year!). We still think she’s too young to do any real celebrations with her, so my plan was to just color some eggs with her and then go to church. Can you believe the stores were sold out of the egg dying kits?? Well, they were and so we didn’t get to color eggs this year. We also didn’t make it out of the house for services! We ended up tuning in online which was just as good. Kali received 3 baskets of goodies: one from Oma, one from her sitter, and one from her Godfamily. Oma’s basket had a bunny that sings, “Jesus Loves Me” and of course, Kali loves it. She joins in on “meeeeeeeeeee!” and “soooooooooo!” It’s just the cutest thing.

Her 21 month stats are: She’s about 33.5” tall which puts her in the 70th percentile. She weighs about 24.5 pounds and that puts her in the 35th percentile for weight. At first I was stressing about her not being average weight but then I realized that the average weight for her age is 25.5 pounds, so she’s only one pound away. Al laughs at me for paying so much attention to the “the charts”. He says she is no where close to being scrawny so just leave her be. I just want to make sure she’s getting enough to eat!

Developmentally, we couldn’t be more proud. She has mastered the entire alphabet and is now working on numbers. If you count to ten, she’ll join in on the numbers that she knows. She’s also starting to point out numbers that she recognizes when we’re out and about. She can differentiate between lots of animals and can even tell you what sounds they make. My personal favorite is her growl for a lion, although her “ribbit” for a frog is pretty cute too! She’s building on her vocabulary every day and is starting to put together real sentences. She only has a few so far:

“I want it!”, “I no want it!”, "I did it!", “I found it!”, “I like it!”, “What happened?”, and my favorite, “I love you”
This morning, she brought me a book and said, “I found it!”. I asked her, “What did you find?”. She answered, “book”. Then I said, “Good girl, you found the book.” Then she followed up with, “I found the book.” So, she’s getting it.

She also wants to do everything herself and touch everything. She’s always asking to “hold it?”. One thing she is deathly afraid of is being burned. You only have to tell her once that something is hot and she will run for the hills. This comes from her grabbing my coffee cup a few months back. I kept telling her it was hot but she kept trying to test it. She thought it was a game to touch it quickly. Well, I turned my head and she tried to pick it up with both hands…burned the daylights out of her little palms. Luckily the coffee was in a covered travel-type mug so it didn’t spill on her but the cup was still vey hot. The result is now if she even thinks something is hot, she will go into a fit. Our cars have leather seats and you know what happens when they get hot. If she catches wind that they are even the slightest bit warm, she instantly goes into hysteria and no amount of telling her that it’s not hot, will calm her down and she will not get into the car. It’s sad and I hope she doesn’t have a lifelong fear because of the coffee cup incident.

We’re also potty training! We actually started last month but haven’t had any success other than her first morning pee and that’s because we sit her on the potty until she goes. As for letting us know before hand? No luck. As for going after she’s been sitting on the potty for 15 minutes? Nope. She’ll go as soon as you take her off! We’ll keep trying though. On the weekends we don’t put a diaper on her, just her panties that way we can catch accidents as soon as they happen. I’m hoping it’ll click soon because this is waaaaaay worse than training a puppy!!! *lol* Here she is attached to her chair this weekend.

She is still a very good eater. Including her veggies! She loves broccoli and specifically asks for it when it’s on her plate. I am very happy about that. We still don’t let her feed herself though. I can’t take the thought of the mess!!! I let her do finger foods but that’s about it! *lol*

Lastly, my girl’s attitude is touch and go. She’s so polite and usually always remembers to say “please” and “thank you”. But she gets frustrated when she can’t put something together or get something to work like she wants it to (like in the ‘shoe’ video). For the most part, she is still her loveable and sweet self most of the time, but when she wants something or wants to do something that she can't…..look out! A great example is just this weekend we took her out to ride her bike. She hadn’t been on her bike since Christmas because it was too big for her. We wanted to see if she was now tall enough to ride. Well, she was sooooo excited about her bike and all started off really well.

As you can see, her legs still aren't quite long enough to pedal but she had a blast just scooting around....until we tried to get her to change direction.
I should have known something was up when I got this face:

She was not happy that we wanted her to turn around and go the opposite way. Little Missy threw a full-on meltdown tantrum at the park. Screaming at the top of her lungs! I thought Al was going to lose it on her. I ended up taking her off her bike and telling her that she blew it and that we were going home. She wouldn’t walk…she kept going limp so it looked like I was dragging her across the field. *lol* She was a mess! We got her home and sent her straight to bed. Ridiculous! I know this is probably just a taste of what is to come and we are preparing ourselves for the worst but still praying for the best!
